Mark Happer – General Manager
Mark has spent almost half of his 30 year-long career with Universal Cranes. Mark played the integral role of General Manager of Universal Cranes from 2003 to 2012, during which time the Group experienced rapid growth and expansion. After spending a period as Operations Manager to Universal Cranes’ sister construction company, Mark returned to Universal Cranes to lead the team as the Brisbane General Manager. In addition to his history with Universal Cranes, Mark brings professional qualifications in engineering as well as project management experience on the Otira Viaduct and PJK Expressway projects in New Zealand, the Townsville Inner Harbour Expansion Project, the Kookaburra Viaduct in PNG. Mark is a construction guy through and through – he loves the ‘no-fuss – get it done – safely and efficiently’ ethos at Universal Cranes, and plays a big part in building and maintaining this culture!
Phil Dayman – Operations Manager
Phil has been part of the Universal Cranes team since 2005. Joining the organisation as a heavy-duty fitter in Brisbane, Phil worked as Heavy Lift Manager on some of Universal Cranes’ most notable projects including the HRSG Installation in Georgetown in Tasmania, the Bowen Overpass in Brisbane and Shellharbour Rail Bridge. Phil then moved into Project Manager of the Universal Cranes wind business, overseeing the installation and erection of wind towers and turbines at Capital, Hallett, Snowtown, North Brown and Cullerin Wind Farms. After a few years back in Brisbane in safety and operational roles, Phil made the move to Roma to lead Universal Cranes’ expansion in the Surat Basin. He has recently returned to Brisbane as the Operations Manager, leading Universal Cranes’ team of almost 100 local crane operators, riggers, dogmen, and mechanics.
Nicolas Navarrete – Sales & Engineering Manager
Nicolas has 10 years’ experience in engineering and project management on major infrastructure works in Australia and internationally. Originally hailing from New Caledonia, Nicolas joined the company in 2009 as a Project Manager on the Koniambo Wharf Project. After almost three years in the Universal Cranes Brisbane team, Nicolas took up the role of leading the sales and engineering department. As a qualified engineer, Nicolas brings heavy lift engineering expertise to provide pragmatic, efficient and above all safe complex and heavy lift solutions.
Andrew Pearce – Term Hire Manager
Andrew has over 10 years’ experience in the construction industry. After assisting with the management of the Universal Cranes workshop for seven years, Andrew moved into the role of Term Hire Manager in 2013. Andrew quotes, plans and oversees the national crawler crane fleet. Need a big crane or a complex lift solution? Andrew is your man.
